Birmingham Airport land 900 gifts at local charities

Colleagues at Birmingham Airport have launched this year’s Christmas charity initiative, "Bringing Joy to Our Journey," successfully collecting 900 gifts for local charities this festive season.

Colleagues at Birmingham Airport (BHX) have launched this year’s Christmas charity initiative, "Bringing Joy to Our Journey," successfully collecting 900 gifts for local charities this festive season. The campaign invited colleagues and partners at the airport to contribute to a gift-giving drive aimed at supporting those in need across Birmingham and Solihull.

The initiative aligns with BHX's Sustainability Strategy, focusing on being a responsible neighbour and enhancing community investment and wellbeing.

Colleagues participated by selecting tags from Christmas trees located throughout the airport, each containing a specific 'wish' from one of the four partnered charities. These Christmas wishes could be anything from kid's toys and toiletries to dog beds, ensuring a wide array of support for the community.

The charities on standby to receive a sack full of gifts from the airport include:

St Basil's – Supporting homeless youths aged 16-25.

Birmingham Dogs Home – Caring for stray and abandoned dogs.

Children's Storehouse – Providing essentials to families in need.

Birmingham and Solihull Women’s Aid – Supporting women and children affected by domestic violence.

Andy Holding, Corporate Responsibility Manager for Sustainability at BHX said: "Campaigns like this make me incredibly proud of Birmingham Airport and its commitment to community engagement. This initiative is one of many BHX has supported over the past year, delivering a positive impact across the community. We’re especially proud of our Community Trust Fund and Volunteering initiatives, which make a real difference in education and environmental efforts across the West Midlands."

Meganne Gill-Swift, Corporate Responsibility Assistant Manager at BHX said: "We were honoured to support local charities this Christmas by providing items to ease lives in our community, especially at Christmas. The campaign’s success and the overwhelming generosity of our colleagues have been amazing to see, and we really hope that more people (and our furry friends) have a more wonderful time this Christmas.”

“In addition to the Christmas charity initiative, the airport is currently in the process of selecting its new nominated charity partner. Five charities from across the region have presented their cases, and the decision now rests on a vote by colleagues. The chosen charity will enjoy a three-year partnership with BHX, benefiting from significant support through fundraising and volunteering efforts.”
