KBIS British Equestrian Insurance announce SPANA as its charity of the year

KBIS British Equestrian Insurance announces this week that it has named SPANA as its Charity of the Year.

KBIS British Equestrian Insurance have long been one of the UK’s leading independent horse insurance specialists. The family-run business offers insurance at every level of equestrianism and has always shown support for equestrian related charities.

Founded in 1923 by Kate Hosali and her daughter Nina, SPANA (The Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad) aims to improve the welfare of working animals around the world, by helping horses, donkeys, mules and camels in some of the world’s poorest countries.

SPANA improves the lives of working animals in three key ways: providing free veterinary treatment; training local animal owners, and teaching local children (the animal owners of tomorrow) about animal welfare. Last year SPANA treated 283,552 working animals and educated 48,995 children in developing countries. Meanwhile, its community training programme works with owners to address the root causes of welfare problems, changing attitudes and behaviours and promoting humane treatment of animals, thereby reducing preventable problems and the need for veterinary intervention.
